Buddy Performs The Messiah For Red Cross Benefit
Jan 21, 2010
(Nashville, Tennessee...) -- January 20, 2010 -- Known for having one of country music's warmest and most expressive voices, Buddy Jewell lent his voice to the classical side (and to charity) as a guest soloist in Handel's masterpiece "The Messiah" to help raise money for the American Red Cross last night.

Backed by over sixty members of the Music City Community Chorus and the Excelsior Chamber Orchestra, Jewell soloed in two parts - "For behold, darkness shall cover" and "The people that walked in darkness"- from this most popular and difficult work of choral literature.

"This was an amazing event to highlight the incredible need following last week's tragic earthquake in Haiti," said Buddy. "It was an honor to be invited to be a part of the event and to support the ongoing relief efforts of the Red Cross."

The event, which took place last night at The Limelight in Nashville, featured other celebrity soloists including Pam Tillis and John Cowan. The American Red Cross was the beneficiary of the evening's ticket proceeds.

Buddy continues to criss-cross the country in support of his latest single, the emotion-charged "Somebody Who Would Die for You."

Tuesday’s 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti near the capital of Port au Prince is being blamed for catastrophic loss of life and severe damage to the area’s infrastructure including buildings, hospitals, telephone lines and electricity. Many areas remain inaccessible as roads are covered with debris and bridges have collapsed.

The American Red Cross is currently sending money, supplies and staff to Haiti to support relief efforts where as many as three million people may have been affected.

People who want to help those affected by the Haitian earthquake now can also make a donation to the American Red Cross International Response Fund at Redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Alternatively you may also make your donation at the Nashville Area Red Cross Chapter located at 2201 Charlotte Ave, Nashville, TN 37203 or call 615-250-4300.
